Websites To Watch: Part 3

With all of the new websites that are created on a daily basis, most Internet users have to rely on other users to help them figure out which sites are the most useful. Useful websites often generate a lot of buzz and their fame spreads virally as users blog and post about the sites. Of course, there are a lot of people who enjoy being among the first to discover a useful new site so they can tell their friends about it. If you’re one of those people, or if you simply enjoy finding out about new and interesting sites, read on to discover or learn more about some up-and-coming websites to watch.

1. Twitter

Twitter, once only know to a few, has become a widely popular place for people to post updates about themselves and their lives. Since these updates are limited to 140 characters, these “tweets” have a style all of their own, compared to the longer postings on most websites. But perhaps it’s a sign of the times: many teenagers only use text messaging, for instance, instead of calling, also with a limited character count. Twitter is also popular with celebrities who use the site to give little updates to their fans. Businesses can use Twitter to send an abbreviated newsletter of sorts to their customers and potential customers, as well.

2. Yelp

Though not quite a household name, Yelp certainly enjoys immense popularity within its market. The site allows users to write reviews of businesses, mainly restaurants. Many businesses on Yelp have hundreds and even thousands of reviews, all written by real people, most of whom have no agenda in mind. It’s a great place to get an unbiased look at what average people think about a given business. Yelp’s popularity has enabled it to expand overseas as well.
