Google Instant : The New Kid on the Block

Google Instant is the new kid in town when it comes to search engines. It is even faster than the current version of Google. It’s so fast that it boasts that it is even searching before you type. This new upgrade to Google, as part of the ongoing efforts to surpass Yahoo, predicts the search phrases that users are typing into the Google Search box, and presents results before the user has even finished typing. If the prediction is correct, the user simply stops typing, scrolls down the results, and clicks on the desired site.

Google search speeds are already pretty quick, with some search results showing up within 1.1 and 2.7 seconds. But, Google is looking to get even better with the new Google Instant. Some feel it’s all hype to keep Google’s name in the news. Others feel that increasing the search speed will add up to users saving hours of time. Google’s tests are proving that this new development will save the average person between two and five seconds for each search.

Users from Safari, Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, and Firefox will all experience Google Instant when they visit Google.com. This service is available in the United States, and will be rolling out soon in Spain, France, Italy, Russia. and the United Kingdom once their browsers have been upgraded and can handle the new service.

There are many benefits to this quick search function, especially for people who search on mobile phones where multiple buttons have to be hit just to get to one letter!

Could this just be part of a ploy to get ahead of Yahoo and Bing in the search engine battle? So far, some users don’t seem to care because it’s giving them faster results. Stay tuned to see if the other big search engines develop rival technology to improve their speeds.
